We’re getting married!

What’s the story?

Hello everyone! We’re incredibly excited to invite you to celebrate our wedding with us. After nearly ten years together, we decided that now is the perfect time to make use of that married couple’s tax benefit (we jest, of course). We cannot wait to see you at the Great Barn in Devon on 22.02.2025!

This website has everything you need to know, including information on travel, accommodation and a whole range of FAQs. The order of the day will include: our ceremony; the reception; the wedding feast; a cèilidh; and music/dancing. There will also be a book swap throughout the day - so don’t forget to bring a book which you love and swap it for some new reading material.

Getting there and getting home

The wedding ceremony and reception will be held at The Great Barn in Devon, about twenty minutes from the city of Exeter. The venue is fully accessible by wheelchair and mobility aids. Directions to The Great Barn are available here. If you're travelling by car, this link will provide you with some useful directions to ensure you don't come face-to-face with a tractor on a very small rural lane! The nearest train station is Exeter St. David's (8 miles from the venue), where there is a taxi rank available. It is also a beautiful cycle out of the city, through Ide and over the lanes of Mid Devon (get in touch if you'd like a route).

The Great Barn has ample free parking for over 45 cars on-site, as well as disabled access. Guests are welcome to leave their cars overnight and pick them up on Sunday or Monday to suit. If you require a taxi to get back to Exeter/transport links on the Saturday night, make sure you pre-book to avoid a sticky situation. Carriages will be at midnight and here's a list of local taxi firms recommended by the venue:

Accommodation

There is plenty of accommodation on-site (at guest expense), although close family and international guests will have first refusal. If you would like accommodation on-site, please indicate as such on the RSVP and we will accommodate where possible (although cannot guarantee). There are three AirBnB venues within walking distance of The Great Barn and plenty of local BnB/country hotel options (see below). There are also lots of hotels in Exeter which will be a car journey/taxi ride away. There is on-site camping for those who wish to camp - you are welcome to bring a tent and pitch up on the grass behind the barn and bathroom facilities will be left open for you to access overnight (although please bear in mind it can get very cold in Mid Devon in February!).

FAQs

  • Please wear whatever you feel comfortable in! There is no dress code - something vaguely formal is fine.

  • The ceremony will be held indoors in the main barn, as will the wedding feast and evening entertainment. The reception will be held in a separate barn, but (should the sun decide to make an appearance) there will be plenty of space outside for mingling.

  • The ceremony will begin at 12:30pm, so please arrive no later than 12 noon.

  • The rumours are true, we’ll be holding a book swap! There will be a table laid out where guests can bring a book(s) and take a book(s).

  • Yes, children who are invited on your personal invitation are absolutely welcome! We do politely ask that if any children are not particularly enjoying the ceremony they be taken out of the room (there’s plenty of additional space in the main barn).

  • If your invite specifies a plus one, then absolutely! If your invite does not specify a plus one, then unfortunately not.
